My Rant
What a day. If there was a rep from Adobe here I would scream "WHY DON'T YOU FIX YOUR USELESS FUCKING SOFTWARE INSTEAD OF BRINGING OUT ENDLESS VERSIONS WITH FEATURES NOBODY WANTS" before headbutting the creep and getting lots of broken nose blood all over his fresh crisp shirt. Somebody bring me the head of Adobe and a shotgun. This one's for the guys from Apple!
It's been like, 17 years since the early adopters were snapping up domain names to hoard on the internet and we had Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash (Then owned by Macromedia who also produced Director and its fucking way over the horizon 50km beyond lame "lingo" code. Remember that? Nope, me neither thanks to the drugs and therapy). By 1996 most designers were happily screwing up people's dial-up connections with useless skip intro screens full of the pixellated fruits of Photoshop IN STUNNING 640x480. Since then we've had massive improvements in computer speed, TV resolution, communications and more. Jeez, we might even get a man back on the moon one day. But of Flash and Photoshop? Fuck all improvement. I mean it's obvious the guys rans out of ideas several versions ago and started to concentrate on brainstorming bloated shit that people don't need (Seriously? Puppet Warp? Is that the best you got? FUCKING MUPPET WARP MORE LIKE IT) or justifying the Macromedia takeover (Anyone else still use Imageready rather than take on the horribly wrong feeling Fireworks? I'd rather code on fucking A4 Lined paper.) FIX YOUR FUCKING SOFTWARE ADOBE! Photoshop takes forever to load and STILL can't utilise multiple cores and 64 bit operating environments properly. Likewise Flash. Tried editing multiple frames without having to scroll horizontally and reposition those crappy start and endpoint gizmos? FIX IT! Tried to select a font lately by starting to type in the name? Well, everyone else accepted that shortcut as standard years ago. Not Adobe, oh no. Far more important for them was to create Actionscript 3 - which is just fucking bloated unusable shit as far as designers are concerned (Albert and others may beg to differ but this is in my opinion why people aren't getting right behing Flash following its snub on iPad). Flash ought to be as easy as Photoshop to use. Adobe kinda had it almost in their grasp about 7 years ago but let it get away.
Just as Quark ruled the layouts and artwork studios in the 90s before succumbing to bloat and not fixing the problems, Adobe run the risk of doing exactly the same. Think Indesign, Flash et al are irreplaceable? A lot thought that of Quark. But it turned out to be a case of "I'm not in love...but I'm gonna use you until something better comes along" (To paraphrase the lyrics of Marilyn Manson).
As soon as a proper competitor comes along Adobe, you're dead. History. Or worse, like Quark, a fucking niche product trading on prehistoric glories. Forget CS6 and upgrade prices, FIX YOUR FUCKING SOFTWARE!
