  I tried to start a debt management plan through another company. My other credit cards (Chase & Citibank) accepted the proposal, Barclays did not. They said it was because I was already on a rate reduction plan with them. I had no idea, I didn't ask to be put on their plan. So, I asked to be removed. I then re-submitted my debt management plan proposal that Chase and Citibank had already accepted, and Barclays denied it again. Now, they won't even put me back on their in-house rate reduction plan since I asked to be removed. But, I only asked to be removed because I was told that was the reason my proposal wasn't being accepted. « less

  Now that I am a 'victim' of identity fraud and abroad, I am no longer able to access my bank account, so am left overseas without any recourse to getting funds! On top of this, there are mystery charges. This finally seals the deal. I am leaving Barclays for good when I get back to the UK. What a pathetic excuse for a bank!

  Way back I banked at Bastards, sorry Barclays bank, I was in credit but I needed an overdraft for a month, £5,000, I saw the manager at the Hatfield branch, He said no and kept on about me buying a car for my wife, I spent £200 on the car and she wasn't worth it, The wife that is! I was clutching a contract from British Rail for £50,000 worth of wo... more »

I was clutching a contract from British Rail for £50,000 worth of work but no way would the manager agree to the £5000, As I left one of the managers told me discreetly that the manager was anti-semetic.   I was late paying my card, but made an $800 payment last week and planned to pay remaining balance by end of month. Got a letter in the mail that my card has been cancelled due to the late payment but they had already received the $800 which was almost the entire balance. Not good for the credit rating. Wonder how these people stay in business w... more »

Now they have trashed my financial reputation by registering a default on one account that had a mini overdraft (although my total was 5 figs in credit).   I have banked with them for 25 years. Actually, being net in credit, they have technically banked with me! Now they have trashed my financial reputation by registering a default on one account that had a mini overdraft (although my total was 5 figs in credit). Now they write and ask me to phone them - but can't help on the phone without a passcode, despite practically taking DNA to confirm who I say I am. They are 120% useless. They have fucked up EVERYTHING I have asked them to do: from initially setting us up with a savings account, debit card, telephone & internet banking (this all took about 4 calls to their inefficient customer team to sort out), to changing the account name when we changed the name of the company... more »

  I've been a business customer w/Barclays for 2 years. They have fucked up EVERYTHING I have asked them to do: from initially setting us up with a savings account, debit card, telephone & internet banking (this all took about 4 calls to their inefficient customer team to sort out), to changing the account name when we changed the name of the company (again, took 3 calls to actually make this happen), to even getting our address right in the first place. They sent everything - statements, replacement cards, God know what else - to my **old address in East London** - an address that I only had to give them because I hadn't lived at the current address for over 3 years. We recently asked them for a business overdraft, was told we'd been accepted & they'd send forms to set it up. Nothing arrived. We managed for a few weeks, I nudged them again. Had to go through the whole rigmarole of answering the same questions they'd already asked me before. Still nothing has turned up. Since setting the account up originally we've moved the business from Hove to Reading, and I now can't talk to them at our local branch because our account manager in Hove - who is the most useless ***t I have ever met - is based at the old branch, and hasn't signed the piece of paper to transfer our account to the new branch. I have no direct number for him and have to go through their hateful call system every time I want him to ring me back, which he never does.
  
  I really can't find a single good thing to say about them. We're moving as soon as we can, and I would advise anyone thinking of setting up a business account with them to AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE. « less

  Their website is really strict: if you click twice (particularly if you have pad mouse) or if you use the back button, they disconnect you from the website. So you have to start again the annoying process of using that chinese pin-machine with the card and type dozens of numbers. Really bad customer experience.

  Just got overdraft for some hours and they billed me!. Barclays sets up an overdraft option without querying the users (i don't want overdrafts). and if you make a mistake an get more money than you have (for example, credit card payment) you have to pay them a fee, no moaning allowed . Customers need to be more protected.
