Tell your friends to boycott Terminal 5. This is the only airport where you are given a deadline for passing security. If you don't read the small print on your boarding pass, Bloody Awful will refuse to let you through. With every other airline, your deadline is the gate closure time. At T5 BA can prevent you from joining your flight, and you have no way of knowing if the flight is full or not. This means that they can avoid their responsibilities towards passengers, and "bump" them without compensation. It happened to us recently. We arrived just in time to go through security, but no, there was something wrong with our pre-printed boarding passes. Security admitted that "they had been having problems with the system". By the time we were sent back to a desk to get our boarding cards re-printed, it was just on the deadline, and the scanner rejected the cards again. We still had 15 mins to get to the gate as we only had hand luggage, and there were 35 mins before take-off but we were blamed for "missing" our flight, and had to pay for new flights, a bus to Gatwick, a hotel in Gatwick, and a cancellation charge from the hotel we had previously booked that night in Edinburgh. When you miss your flight, you become a "non-person" as far as BA is concerned. We can to queue for ages, and were subjected to superior and dismissive treatment. Many other passengers were in tears, and BA staff were openly insulting them. We had to fight to keep our return flights, and the Bloody Awful Customer Service seemed to expect us to feel grateful for not losing that money as well. Be warned. Don't go near T5 and the World's Meanest Airline !
