It really does suck. I enabled it on my Nexus today, and HUNDREDS of people's "thought balloons" popped up on the map, showing their precise locations and (what they thought were) private updates. I had changed my settings to be private the day before yesterday, so I thought I was good... but when I came home and looked on an actual browser, nope. When Google changed the settings up again, the default went back to "public," and now there was no privacy settings option anywhere -- only with each individual post. Oh, and there's no option to just make them visible to only your followers. I assume you have to create a new Google Profile group, and manually add your followers one-by-one. « less
