Stupid ass city just want money, and the only way they can do this is by giving rediculous tickets to people......cops can do whatever they want, and they're always right...using their stupid ass siren and flashing their gay ass light, they can get away with everything....I've seen cops had their light on while making phone calls, while blocking ha... more »

Stupid ass city just want money, and the only way they can do this is by giving rediculous tickets to people......cops can do whatever they want, and they're always right...using their stupid ass siren and flashing their gay ass light, they can get away with everything....I've seen cops had their light on while making phone calls, while blocking half the traffic....traffic cops that don't even speak clear English (especially those dirty looking immagrants from India....) instead of directing traffic, they're usually seen standing in the corner of a busy intersections in pairs talking and laughing, waiting for poor suckers to innocently block the intersections and give them a ticket......I mean..what kind of shit is that??? we're paying taxes, and this is what we're getting... NYC sucks!!!!! « less

Anywhere were people are so arrogant; think that nastiness is a sign of inner and outer strength; and self-centered and materialistic sucks! NYC is more hype nowadays - there was a time when it was a truly interesting place with vibrant ideas and a multitude of viewpoints: now it's all about the $$$ and less about ideas and ideals. NYC is more hype nowadays - there was a time when it was a truly interesting place with vibrant ideas and a multitude of viewpoints: now it's all about the $$$ and less about ideas and ideals. When I visited LA I was surprised to find, not that people were nicer in LA (there are nice people in NYC too) but that it was not any more, nor any less superficial than NYC.

Diversity? Yeah, a lot of cities in the US have that nowadays, it's not really a distinguishing factor anymore: take Chicago, Houston, San Francisco, LA, and there are probably more in different regions of the US.

And a lot of cities either already have or are developing the cultural aspects that NYC is so prized for. Theater? Yeah, Chicago and San Francisco for example, definitely have that. Really good, world class eateries? Check. Hole in the wall tasty ethnic food. Check (LA, SF, Chi, etc) Night life? Check; and in a lot of these other places people are much friendlier and the women are not stuck up.
The one thing that I'll give NYC is the reach of the public transportation system; but on balance Chicago has a pretty good system as well; the DC metro is so-so; Boston is so-so as well (but Boston sucks for a lot of other reasons); SF have pretty good reach, but it's organization is hard to get used to, etc.

What kills NYC is the cost (why people are about $$$) and pollution. And the truth is that NYC is no longer the only game in town. And I'm only considering comparisons with other US cities. Now you want to go to a city abroad that ROCKS: while expensive people are polite, it is cleaner, safer, public transportation is better (extensive, on-time, clean) and because people are more easygoing it's much more fun, the place to be is Tokyo. I haven't traveled much abroad, so I'm sure there are other cities which may be better, but I claim ignorance on that one. « less
