Gentoo only sucks if you don't understand it; it is not for novices to use, but can be a very useful teaching tool for novices. Gentoo only sucks if you don't understand it; it is not for novices to use, but can be a very useful teaching tool for novices. I like it because it's command-line tools are some of the best out there, and emerge/portage (while taking forever) is one of my personal favorite package management systems. Their take on SysV Init is also the best I've seen, and the easiest to work with. I like it for testing purposes and to keep myself sharp.

That being said, I don't use it as my primary distro either for my desktop or my workhorse servers...I simply don't want to go through the headache of making it work right on something I consider critical either to its mission or to my needs/wants. But always fun to work with; I set up every distro I do work with to "feel" like gentoo by giving them the gentoo prompt. « less
