This is about HSBC in Hong Kong.

They have no clue of state of the art payment processing as it has been the standard with many other banks in different countries:

If you want to set up a standing instruction to a foreign bank account, you can do that online. Great!
If you want to set up a standing instruction within Hong Kong, even within HSBC, you have to fill a paper form, sign it and bring it to your branch. Yuck!

If you do an electronic transfer within HSBC (to another HSBC account in HK), there is no way to specify a customer reference (e.g. invoice number) so that the recipient can match incoming payments against outstanding payments. Instead, the sender of the payment has to note down or print the reference number generated by HSBC and forward it to the recipient out-of-band. How retarded is that?

The first thing I got when opening an account was a cheque book ... cheques are retarded as well.

If you do an online transfer within Hong Kong to a different bank (not HSBC), they charge a fee of HKD 30 (2.44 GBP). If you send a cheque to the recipient, it doesn't cost a penny. Clearing cheques is way more complicated than processing electronic payments...
