You can't possibly be serious! Obama's using student loans to effectively nationalize education. Academics (mostly Marxist hypocrites) demand huge salaries. Most can't afford $250k for a degree, so government is subsidizing these weasels. The same has been done with cars and housing: prices being artificially inflated by government. This is leading to an economic collapse because it's unsustainable.

As to grants, before PELL, there was BEOG (Basic Educational Opportunity Grants) and others, but all have been given based on race. Both myself and my brother were refused because we are White. That's racist, no matter how anyone tries to spin it.

Since the 1960s, government's increased its control of education, spending exponentially more money on schools, but with results of near illiteracy for students. How do you justify that? This is due to radicals hijacking the system to emphasize social promotion and divisive racial studies instead of math and science. Giving more money to this criminal outfit only makes the problem worse.

It's insane to think government is efficient at running anything. And just wait until ObamaCare goes into full effect. I'm under government-run healthcare and it's a bureaucratic nightmare that's laced with unnecessary procedures which delay treatment for patients. The secret scheme with socialized medicine is the hope is that the sick will either get better without help, or die.

BTW - ObamaCare will create a shortage of physicians; many are already leaving the field. Since government is paying for tuition, bureaucrats will rationalize dictating what careers students can pursue in order to compensate for shortages. This will be "for the common good."

Your say more "educated" people make a better society. That smacks of the kind of urban elitism I see from arrogant Hollywood types, who think of themselves as brilliant because of their wealth and Marxist predispositions. Most have no common sense and are just ranting, extremist morons. You also haven't addressed my point that schools are run by radicals who are pushing indoctrination, not education.

The hysteria over global warming is a perfect example of such propaganda. This corrupt pseudo-science is used by leftist blowhards who always have the same juvenile conclusion: America and capitalism are poising the Earth, and we need a one-world (totalitarian) government that will bypass U.S. voters to save the planet. Can any sane person really believe a regime like China will heal the Earth, given its own disastrous environmental record? Ice sheet research debunks the premise that man can control massive environmental changes, but such nonsense is a great way to separate fools from their money, and dictator-worshipers from their freedom. Historically, massive environmental changes are due to extraterrestrial impacts, vulcanism, orbit and axis variations, and stellar bursts such as gamma rays or flare activity from own own sun.

The only environment Obama's improved is to enrich the bank accounts of his corrupt, crony supporters. Like "education", people foolishly think throwing money at a problem will make it better. That only makes a government more corrupt.

You admire FDR, but, by all accounts, FDR's iron-fisted policies and social spending extended the Great Depression because it hampered a free market recovery. He banned people from owning gold and even demnded they turn in their personal items with precious metals. FDR was also a progressive. Progressive hate the free market because they want big government to replace the private sector. Just think of the wonderful life in the old Soviet Union, or today in lovely places like Cuba and North Korea.

Contrary to the lies of progressives, the two biggest world polluters are India and China - both are exempt from the Kyoto Protocol and every other world climate regulation scheme. Instead, in a truly partisan manner with his radical progressive sidekicks who controlled Congress at the time (Democrats) he forced through a totally unAmerican healthcare scheme that jails people unable to afford its insurance mandate. The first act of this scheme after it was "passed" in 2010: hiring 16,000 new IRS agents to "enforce" that mandate. It's a great way to criminalize opponents and jail them. I have no job, thanks to racist, sexist and bigoted affirmative action policies. Now, this same government is poised to jail me for not being able to afford health insurance. Maybe it's a good thing. Perhaps it will infuriuate enough people to rise up and initiate a shooting war against the progressive scum behind this and other policies repsonsible for destroying America.

When it comes to Libya, this administration is Nixonian in its underhandedness. Mistakes made during the fog of war are forgivable, but Obama refuses to even acknowledge that Islam is at war with the West (and everyone else). Sending his operatives out to lie to the nation about the Libya murders, and trying to pin it all on a video is insulting to everyone's intelligence. BTW-most of these thugs don't even have electricity in their villages, must less uncensored internet access allowed by their zealot Islamic governments.

Obama and his creepy, fanatical supporters falsely accuse opponents of racism on a regular basis. That's the last ploy by liberals in a losing arguement, and one used by true racists. Whenever speaking in public, Obama surrounds himself with young people who are easily herded and misled, and minorities who support him because of his skin color - who's really racist now? His political ploys are classic Marxist tactics: divide people to conquer. He's divided this country more than anyone, lapdogs sympathizers in the criminally biased media, notwithstanding.

In the end, you've been misled to believe in a one-world government that bypasses the US Constitution in favor of iron-fisted rule by unaccountable elites. The latest edict from our IT Dept: only Safari can be used to connect to the internet! They've uninstalled or disabled all other browsers! That came just after all PCs were banned from the entire company. Many reading this may not believe a department would do such insanity, but this is very standard operating procedure whenever Apple goons get a foothold in any organization.

My condemnation of Apple is based on having seen things like this occur over 30 years of working with with it and PC platforms. Apple herds users to its ridiculously over priced products that are deliberately designed to have no cross-platform compatibility. Its Lion OS now even encrypts WAVE audio files so they're unreadable on other systems!

I'll admit that my writing style is abrasive and Tarun feels attacked, but my hatred of Apple isn't personally directed towards him. He should consider that I and most PC users don't care what others prefer, and we don't advocate forcing Windows, Android, etc. onto the world - but a vast majority of Apple users are ignorant fanatics who demand everyone use their products, and they respond with condescension and personal attacks against anyone refusing to go along. The same cult tactics were used on Mao's cultural revolutionaries, Hitler's brownshirts and today on unhinged Middle Eastern mobs.

Such fanaticism towards forced assimilation is really about control, and control freaks. It's a similar mindset behind the social media cult of FaceBook (which is repackaged MySpace) and American "progressives" (who are repackaged Marxists). Whether it's technology or politics, many have been brainwashed into thinking less freedom is better. That's your choice - but you're way out of line when you decide to take away freedom from the rest of us.

Windows users don't worship Bill Gates and Linux users don't worship themselves. Apple users like Tarun shouldn't let themselves be defined by the idol worship of any company, it's products, activist causes or any person hailed as a messiah. That's just another form of herding. It's similar to when any White guy says he doesn't like Obama's policies; most Blacks will immediately react defensively and accuse him of racism. They've let themselves be herded. If you let anyone define you for their purposes, you'll only be exploited and end up going down in flames with them when they inevitably fall.

If you're serious about music get away from iTunes, which is an insignificant laughingstock, given all the free and legal music sites worldwide. Also, get off Apple entirely. It's refusal to recognize Flash, which is used on almost half the websites, and its play-only media schemes give users a completely distorted view of all the web has to offer - they can't see many sites.

Thanks, Jason; glad to see you can be reasonable. I've also bench-tested both platforms for speed and PCs are about 20 times faster. Some Apple users are insanely fanatical who argue with everything. Don't take statements by me and anti-Apple folks personally. There are reasons why we have been driven to feel this way.

Platform is a matter of choice, and if you prefer Apple, I have no problem with that. But there are substantial numbers of Apple users who demand everyone be on their platform. Most of the world (95%) is not, and there is a growing number of people who are angry about the hostility, condescension and disrespect shown towards them by fanatical Apple users.

I work at a college radio station where the IT Department was hijacked by Apple fanatics. These goons underhandedly replaced all the station's Dell PCs with iMacs and did so during Christmas break, without consulting our staff. It's been a total disaster; the iMacs cost 6 times as much and Apple's restrictive OS limits many fundamental freedoms and won't allow many basic functions. To this day, DJs can no longer digitally record their own radio programs! Forget the nonsense about using GarageBand; it's extremely complicated and, by restrictive design, can only record a few minutes of audio streaming.

And it gets worse. The IT goons won't allow any browser other than Safari to be used; even hardcore Apple users have admitted to me how creepy this is. Top it off with the fact that these same IT morons just issued a "no PC" edict for the entire university, banning anything other than Apple devices. Our radio station's web streaming software is PC-based (Apple has none), and our chief engineer has had to hide those PC webcasting computers from IT's goons, who would remove them if discovered.

This is how utterly insane and paranoid Apple and its minions have become; they are ignorant, obnoxious and they tend to burn bridges with everybody. I've done tech support for 20 years and seen this as common practice whenever Apple fanatics take over departments. Many companies have been driven out of business because of such nonsense. The university I spoke of will be handing students Apple-based computer degrees not worth the paper they're written on.

It's easy for conversations become insulting, and I'm not trying to do that to you. I've worked on both platforms since their inceptions, ~30 years. I resent the smug arrogance of Apple fanatics, who are ignorant of the other systems they trash the same way they trash people outside of their elitist cult. Most don't even understand the fundamentals of their own beloved Apple products.

Worst of all are the ridiculous restrictions Apple has always handcuffed its users with:
1. Goofy proprietary schemes (no one uses M4A file types for audio)
2. Deliberately-designed incompatibility with other platforms
3. 6-20 higher prices than competitors
4. Asinine OS restrictions against media recording and file transfer
5. Refusal to recognize FLASH, which is used by almost half of all websites

People can still like Apple in spite of all these problems, but it's juvenile to insult others for revealing them. You're absolutely right that platform is a matter of choice. The problem with Apple users is that, unlike PC users, they want to take away everyone's choice and force them onto Apple's products. I've met few Windows users and none on Linux who think that way.

Other inconvenient truths:
1. Most internet users (more than 80%) are PC-based
2. The same amount of internet music composers are PC-based
3. Apple users are about 9% in America, the company's alleged stronghold
4. Apple users worldwide total about 5% (the number using Safari as their browser)
5. Macs aren't "virus proof"; their numbers are so small that few bother writing viruses for them
6. Apps are extremely expensive because Apple allows little 3rd party development
7. Linux is the fastest growing OS
8. At its peak in 2010, the iPhone never reached 30% of the smartphone market

The hostility mentioned in the link you referenced comes from people like myself who are far more intelligent than the mindless, trendy herds of idiot NPR-listening soccer moms and neurotic, manipulative sissy art directors, who arrogantly pass themselves off as tech authorities. Most couldn't find their way out of a paper bag.

Apple has encouraged this attitude much the same way cults egg on their fanatical followers. The resulting resentment is a very understandable response, especially from someone like myself who's built custom PC-based audio/video systems for about 20 years, but who's told "you're dumb if you're not on Apple" or "it can't be done unless it's on a Mac."

At the radio station I work at, our PCs were replaced with iMacs during Christmas break. Our staff wasn't consulted and no platform transitions were addressed. It's been a total disaster. The station's budget was blown for these iMac paperweights, which cost 6 times as much. Studio maintenance has suffered because if this extra expenditure. Fundamental functions are no longer available, such as transferability of written documents; Snow Leopard encrypts everything, even regular file extensions, so they can only be read on Macs. Because Apple is totally against media transfer and digital recording, DJs can no longer record their own radio shows!

Recently, the same Apple goons at the IT Department responsible for this travesty have issued a "Mac-only" edict, banning all PCs. They're also disabled all alternative browsers, commanding everyone to only use Safari. In my years of tech support, I've come to expect this kind of utter paranoia from Apple's fanatical followers. They are a cancer to every organization they get involved with.

These are just a few of the reasons I absolutely detest Apple. It's mindless fanatical followers add to the insult, so whenever these clowns shoot their mouths off, I make it a point to answer their utter BS.

Nice to have a correspondence with an Apple user who's more honest & level-headed than most, although I admit some PC users have been following a similar kind of elitist path in recent years. This is due to the dumbing-down OSs, whose simplicity ends up being very restrictive. Linux's Ubuntu OS did a similar thing with its latest version and it's users are furious.

You're also right in another way: computers are just tools and it's what users accomplish with them that counts. I live near Hollywood; that industry is dominated by narrow-minded and extremist control freaks. Most refuse to work with anyone who uses anything other than Apple. Whether it's insane platform prejudice, fixation with radical ideologies or creepy politicians promoting them, it's all part of a similar mindset. These people are caricature of themselves. Most are incredibly stupid and very intolerant, regardless of all their grandstanding.

Those of us who do hardware have a technical understanding that surpasses hype. My dislike of Apple goes back a long way and is part of a hatred for mindless trends many are caught up in today, like "social media.". Jobs planted many of his spies in IT departments and colleges who, whenever they rise to power, foolishly issue "Mac-only" edicts. In my years of tech support for various companies, when this happens, they spend exponentially more money but get far less functionality and end up screwed. In Los Angeles during the 1990s, most game developers were Mac-based and refused to consider any other platform, even though most games have always been PC-based. Those companies were run by Apple fanatics and all went under in just a few years.

I work at a college radio station where Apple goons recently hijacked our university's IT Department & did the same underhanded thing. Without consulting the staff, the station's Dell PCs were taken away during a holiday week and replaced with iMacs. This move wasted 5 times the amount of money and gave users less options. To this day, DJs can no longer digitally record their own radio shows! Suggestions and complaints were met with utter paranoia from IT, who demanded that one upset director be fired. IT issued other edicts like banning any PCs from the station and its crazy staff actually tried to take over functions like prgram playlists (probably part of the conspiracy to force everyone into iTunes). I've come to expect this attitude from platform fanatics.

A huge backlash against the company has been growing because of the elitist snobbery and pseudo-intellectual posturing by many of its users. People like yourself can help give Apple a better name.

Apple issues many fewer updates because so few people use them: less than 10% in America (its alleged stronghold) and fewer than 5% worldwide, despite all the propaganda to the supposed popularity of its products.

If you've used Windows, you know that updates can be scheduled to avoid those obnoxious interruptions, which I agree with you about.

I find Apple's OSs to be totally scatterbrained with things like file storage, which is seemingly random. Simple tasks on a PC are either a nightmare or just plain not allowed by Apple. This is due to the restrictive nature of all Apple products. Jobs was a deviate control freak and all of his products reflect that. File transfer and recording impediments, along with lack of any real independent third party development and gross over pricing has always turned me off Apple. Add in the iCult's condescension I frequently encounter from Apple fanatics (not you), who know little about their own systems but who arrogantly trash others.

You're kidding yourself if you think Apple's OS isn't loaded with unnecessary junk that slows CPU speed. I've bench tested both and found PCs about 20 times faster, using software written for each OS (not ported versions). You're right that Windows has a lot of garbage running, but, unlike Apple, the user can prioritize it or shut much of it down. Windows does this because, ironically, it's being dumbed-down to look more like Apple's interface. A better argument is that both OSs have more background junk running with each new revision so people are forced to upgrade their hardware.

Like you, I've used both systems. It's a matter of choice. While I've never seen Windows or Linux care what others use, most Mac users I've dealt with demand everyone be on Apple. For this mindset, it's a matter of controlling others.

I've been down the same path as you, building custom PC-based audio/video systems for the last 15 years. We can't be fooled by the iHype.

Jobs' "marketing" plan was a payoff to corrupt schools to force his garbage products onto kids at a young age and indoctrinate them into his iCult of stupidity. Doesn't this sound a lot like dope dealers hooking kids up with drugs at a young age so they could be pimped later on?

This conspiracy hit a university where I volunteer at its radio station. Apple goons hijacked the IT Department. During Christmas break and without consulting any of the staff, these underhanded morons replaced all the station's Dell PCs with iMacs - it's been a total disaster. Among other Stone Age regressions, DJs to this day can no longer digitally record their own radio shows! All this for blowing the station's budget and paying 5 times more for these paper weights, and getting one third the functional ability.

I encourage confrontation by our side against the iCult. Use facts and and publicly humiliate them at every turn so others on the sidelines don't turn into iSheep. Rip them a new asshole at every turn - unless you're dealing with one of those sissy control-freak art directors, who'd probably enjoy it.

Sorry Aaron, but you sound like a Mac fanatic who's never been outside that restrictive platform. The demand for respect you mention seems to be a one way street for this outfit.

I've worked on both for close to 30 years - since 1982 on PCs and the late 1980s on Macs. Apple wants to control everything but only succeeds in controlling the limited number of users in its ranks because the vast majority don't use its devices. It's technology is continually regressive because of all the built-in impediments, especially with media transfer and editing. Job's refusal to incorporate Flash software is just one example.

Some facts:
1. Macs comprised just 10% of all computers sold in America in 2009 (it's stronghold);
2. On the world market, Mac users number around older Amiga and Otari enthusiasts;
3. At the peak of its sales, the iPhone never reached 25% of the smart phone market;
4. Apple OSs are overly restrictive and laced with goofy proprietary schemes.

Apple's iTunes hasn't "revolutionized music" - that brazen lie is one reason why it's a laughingstock on the web. iTunes centers around pop music and is insignificant when compared to millions of independent musicians posting their work on private websites or through netlabel collectives. Despite having no clout in the web music movement, Apple has been working with other forces like big record companies to effectively outlaw this freedom. Jobs' secret meetings with billionaire music mogul David Geffen resulted in Snow Leopard having even more media restrictions than previous Apple OSs.

If you're a Mac user and happy with your products, all power to you. You also may not be like the majority of Apple sympathizers I've had to deal with, who are as ignorant of their own systems as of others they lash out at. But consider this: while Windows & Linux users care less about what others use, Mac users regularly demand everyone be forced into Apple's regime . Combine this with smug arrogance and snarky condescension towards people outside the iCult, it's easy to see why so many people are disgusted with the juvenile antics of Mac fanatics. Just like Jobs, it's all about controlling what others do...and eerily similar to actions of political cranks in the creepy Progressive movement.

The ongoing catharsis over his death resembles that of a tyrant by his suppressed population and his tightly controlled media.

You highlight a problem I've had for decades with all Apple, and which many users have begun to realize after being fooled into by its products: total restriction of media transfer.

Many PC users bought into the Apple propaganda spewed by paid hacks in the media and other control freaks seeking to indoctrinate everyone into their iCult. What these users are now finding out is:

1. Apple devices are deliberately designed to be incompatible with other platforms,
2. Files are encrypted with proprietary schemes to prohibit editing and transfer,
3. Apple products cost 3-5 as much as competitors,
4. Simple functions on Windows &Linux are very complicated or not possible on Apple,
5. Freeware is virtually non-existent for Macs,
6. The only reason Macs get few viruses is because so few people use them,
7. When Macs do get viruses, Apple offers users no help other than to buy it's overpriced anti-virus software.

When confronted with these facts, Mac fanatics fly into a defensively emotional rage. That's because all they have is a pseudo-intellectual attitude of superiority backed up by horseshit propaganda. The rest of us 90% non-Apple users should do the world a favor and pop the air out of the iSheep's balloon.
