Well, welcome to Canada. I love France, I'm sorry you had to leave to make a good living. I would move to a smaller city like, Nancy, or St. Malo in a heartbeat. I love Canada, we emigrated here from Scotland when I was very young. I grew up in Edmonton, and yes it is no great fashion capital but I am a bit tired of people putting it down when, atleast in Western Canada there really isn't a city that stands out compared to it. Vancouver has natural beauty but that is where the advantage ends. There just isn't the historical, or cultural differnce to make it stand out. If you want to move somewhere more interesting in Canada Montreal, or Toronto would be where to go, the job prospects just aren't as good. That being said, they are not great here either. Fashion wise, Vancouver is not much better than Edmonton, Vancouver recently won an award for being the 2nd or 3rd worst dressed city in the world, Google it! Tres bien mon ami, et bon chance!

You can feel that way if you want, however Edmonton has far more soul than either Vancouver or Calgary. If I were you I'd go back to Paris in a heartbeat. There is nothing in western Canada city wise that would ever measure up. To say that Edmonton is shit compared to Calgary or Vancouver is just funny. If you really are measuring them to Paris, they are all shit. If you truly are from Paris then you'd notice that culturally Calgary is a dead zone, and what art galleries in Vancouver? There is VAG, quite a sorry little gallery, and some private ones, but no more than Edmonton. You really haven't looked around the city yet have you? Now if we were arguing about your home town compared to London, or New York, Paris would definitely edge them both out. However my original statement if you remember, was about the people, and on that count Edmonton still has Paris beat too. Beautiful city, hopelessly rude people. Oh, and I've been there three times.

I felt it would be fun to respond to your anti-Edmonton rant that in my opinion is largely untrue and unfounded. Yes rent here is not $2000 for a basement suite, but living in Langely, or Aldergrove is like living in Wetaskiwin. Vancouver is pretty, but really not much happens here, and New York, or London Vancouver is definitely not. My advice is that you should come here, it is nice in many ways, just be aware it is not everything that you are told. And don't move anywhere but Vancouver proper, maybe North Van or Burnaby. You will pay more, but living out where you are talking about is more redneck, and backward than any part of Alberta. Trust me I helped move a gay couple away from there that were harassed. That and Saturday night fun is holding up bible quotes on street corners. I get quite personally insulted when people go after Edmonton, it has a lot going for it, so does Vancouver, but water and mountains only go so far when the rest of the city is a little soulless. Weather wise yes it is milder, the gardens are beautiful, but just wait until the 7-8 months of rain kicks in, it can be hard to stomach. I am not likely moving back to Edmonton, but having traveled a great deal I can assure you Vancouver is a lateral move. There are benefits, but you will have to weigh whether the detraction's are are small enough to be overlooked, and are worth suffering.

I moved to Vancouver from Edmonton. And I guarantee that there is even less to do here than Edmonton. If sitting on the beach and smoking pot is your thing then come on over. Are you ever up for some serious disappointment. But if you are crazy and leftie you'll fit right in. Just watch out for the needles and condoms on the lawn of your $2000 a month basement suite.

One of the things I notice most about all the negative posts on here is that few of the posters appear to have taken part in the life of the city. If all you do is go to bars, and sit at home and watch hockey then you deserve to be unhappy. Get off the couch and get involved. There is more to do here than many other cities I could mention.
