I have used Eclipse, Netbeans, Intellij, a little JBuilder, and a little Xcode.

Have developed on Windows, Ubuntu, Mac, and Open Suse coding extensively in Java, some C, a little fortran, and a while ago visual basic.

Done client development, lot's of server side, jee, database interactions, prior to orm layers, and since, spring, and a little ejb.

Every place I have worked it is what they end up telling you to use. They build their little hooks into it that make it bloated and dependent on it to develop. They then complain that they cannot get to understand how to set up their projects in another IDE. It's all group think. One after another. The lemmings following one another.

Then they require plug-in after plug-in to be added. At some point they do not work together and you end up with a mess. A fubb workspace that has to be scrapped because you cannot figure out which plug-in did not work and have to go way back to some base line. A big waste of time.

I have had no problems setting up netbeans to do everything they need to do. Code even looks more readable in netbeans. I can refactor and move things around. Easily tune it to help inspect and correct for best practices. nb has gotten better and better. I can easily explore new areas or items I have not used recently and switch quickly back to my regular work.

Working with web stuff is outstanding in nb.
